I was never one to like oddball animes, especially those weird ones. Well, it so turns out that "Yumekui Merry" was one of these oddball animes, and coincidentally, it was ALSO weird. Fortunately, I enjoyed my time with "Yumekui Merry", and believe it or not, it actually is a great anime! To me anyways. It seemed weird and stupid at first, then it just grew on me, and before I knew it, I was enjoying the anime a lot. Bearing some similarities to "Shakugan no Shana", "Yumekui Merry" is just like it, while adding some weird twists to it. If you are looking for an anime that is different from the rest, "Yumekui Merry" might just be the one you are looking for.

Songs songs songs......well, the opening song is pretty good. "Daydream Syndrome" by Marina Fujiwara is a song well fit for the anime, and while it doesn't sound catchy or addictive, it has an "epic" feel to it, with slow and fast transitions between the song. Personally I think it fits very well with the opening animations. The ending song, for once, is not so bad. Sang by the seiyuu of merry herself, the ending song is called "Yume to Kibō to Ashita no Atashi". As I said its not bad, but not something I will be jamming to too often.

Rating:8.0/10

Yay an 8.0 for Merry! "Yumekui Merry" is an anime that tries to be different, even if it's only by a little bit. It's kind of a harem, since there are mostly girls in it, but it doesn't focus too much on that part, and instead focuses more on the story. Yes, there is a legitimate plot in "Yumekui Merry", and its actually kind of interesting. The concept of traveling through the dream world and and stuff like that, its a new take with its genre. At times it even feels like this could be made into a pseudo RPG like title like Persona! Most of your time in this anime will be spent gawking at the awesome fight scenes it has to offer, and how certain characters come to be. If you don't like action, why are you even watching this?

Hey! You! Fight me!

Yumeji is a happy young man with a small problem in his life. He has a successful life in school, with friends and grades that aren't too bad. He lives with his cute friend and her father that runs a coffee house. Yes, his life can't get any better, BUT, as I said, he has a problem. He is having constant nightmares about cats attacking him. Yumeji has the ability to see the color of others by putting a ring around his eyes with his fingers, and the colors will effect the dream they will have at night for that day! Yumeji looks at himself at the mirror everyday, and keeps seeing that his color is bad, meaning he will have the nightmare with the cats again. One day though, he meets a girl in real life by the name of Merry, and she appears in his dream to fight off the cats and stop his nightmares. Forming a new team, Merry and Yumeji go around looking for people with nightmares for Merry to vanquish!

"Yumekui Merry" is a great anime that is hard not to enjoy. To me, I loved the idea, concept and characters to the anime, and despite it not having many male characters, it tries not to be very "harem-ish" and succeeds in the end. Being an anime that focuses more on its story and characters, I find "Yumekui Merry" to be a great anime with plenty of impact. It has a great villain to boot! According to the story standpoint of the anime, it should be receiving a season 2, and I cannot wait for that to happen!

Peace.
