OP 1 - Exterminate (Nana Mizuki)

Ending Songs
ED 1 - Rebirth Day (Ayahi Takagaki)

Genre: Action

Episodes: 13

Its good to see anime that people love get critical acclaim. I mean, "Symphogear" did well enough to get 3 seasons, and not long after season 3 finished airing, they decided that they were going to do even more sequels because of how well received "GX" was. Now this kind of blows my mind, sure I do enjoy my time with "Senki Zesshou Symphogear", but there are certainly A LOT more shows out there that deserve attention. With the release of 3 whole seasons, its become rather apparent that they are quite running dry of fresh new ideas to pep this franchise with, seeing as how this 3rd season is, once again, not all that much different from the first 2. Still, don't fix what ain't broken, and if people like this kind of stuff, I don't see how they should deviate from this. To me, its just another season of the same, magical singing mech girls fighting off their evil counterparts.

Probably the best Symphogear related image out there.

As we can expect from Nana Mizuki, "Exterminate" is another great song from her that used as the opening theme to "Symphogear GX". Out of the 3 songs used for opening themes in the franchise, I can safely say that this one is the best, it packs so much energy, power and hype outside of the first few seconds of her singing slowly. The ending theme is "Rebirth Day" by Ayahi Takagaki, and like in previous seasons, its a synthy ending theme sang with soft, yet powerful vocals. Very fitting for the seiyuu of Chris, though I do find "Second Destination" to be a stronger song.

Rating:  7.5/10

This one was SLIGHTLY better than the second season, which is a pretty good thing. The opening few episodes are eerily similar to season 2 in the sequence of the main protagonists encountering a new enemy, and that the new enemy proceeds to declare war on the world. It was quite a...boring way to start, especially since our newly added members to the group from season 2 didn't get much screen time, and it was back to old Tachibana and Yukine. Still, outside of the opening episode, it gets better, though I didn't like the new villain all too much on her own, she had her own band of varied and badass dolls to do combat for her, all of which had nice, varying personalities (except for one). As for our main heroines, it seems like Tachibana is back to her old, self sacrificial self, and while the main trio remain mostly the same, the new characters from season 2 have changed to become slightly more likable, which I find really nice. Other than that though, the story is still a delightfully simple battle of good versus bad with a villain that has a painful past, which is to say, not much. But if you're here for "Symphogear", you're here for the insane action scenes, which still hold up nicely with over the top attacks, explosions and visual effects. Seeing noise get ripped apart has never been so satisfying, and the fact that the girls all get a second mode "power up" made the crazy factor even more insane.

Well, the team sure got bigger.

Tachibana Hibiki, Kazanari Tsubasa and Yukine Chris are the guardians of the world. Well, to be more specific, they are the only 3 able to fully utilize the Symphogear into their weapons to fight against the noise. Of course, that was the case until they met the trio of Maria, Shirabe and Kirika. The 3 were at odds with our protagonists, but have seen made up with one another, though their usage of Symphogears were simply halted because it would be too dangerous for them to wield at the moment. So its back to the 3 being Noise hunters...actually only 2, as Tsubasa had to continue her career as an idol, so the other picked up the slack for her. All while this was going on a new threat appeared, a loli witch who goes by the name Carol. She appears to want to destroy the world (yet again, like all baddies), and she has control over several mechanical, humanized dolls that have the power to combat against the Symphogears. Our heroines must step into the spotlight yet again to defend the world from its new would-be assailants.

With more "Symphogear" on the horizon, its quite easy to see that this franchise is going to become a thing. In fact, its already a huge enough thing to be able to spawn 3 seasons with more on the way. If it can remain ridiculously flashy and entertaining with its fight scenes, I won't complain too much. Just....give us more Chris.

Spoilers for the following games:

Guilty Gear Xrd
Tales Of Xillia 2
Dark Souls 3
Azure Striker Gunvolt
Undertale

The pope. The f**king pope is always the bad guy!

5. Ariels
From: Guilty Gear Xrd Series

Number 5 on today's list is Ariels, the piece of shit pope and leader of the political world of "Guilty Gear". Seriously though, this one's more of a maniac than a bitch.

Ariels is utterly insane. Widely known in the world of "Guilty Gear" as the Sanctus Maximus, the one all, do all that can do NO wrong to the world, Ariels is actually the universal will in human form, disguised to win the trust of the people before going ape shit to destroy all humanity. To do so she needs to fuse Elphelt with Justice, the former of which she captured at the end of the original Xrd with the help of Bedman, a ridiculously powerful assassin under her hire.

Being the universal will, Ariels has one wish, to recreate the human race from scratch, because at the moment, she views them as an "inferior" and "pathetic" race. Being a god and all, she simply thinks that everyone is below her, and reveals her maniacal, sadistic side when we see her mentally torturing Elphelt as she proceeds to wreak havoc all around the world with her crazy shit plan using inhuman, exploding gears. She even pulls off a joker, coloring her face in a distraught color scheme during the victory celebration party before killing everyone in sight in revealing her true plan to all of humanity. She goes down valiantly while fighting the god of a protagonist Sol, but she does show that she retains A SHRED of humanity by asking Sol to look after her 2 daughters Ram and El at the end before she goes down.

Villains always gotta look good, even if they're in their 30s.

4. Victor
From: Tales Of Xillia 2

Taking 4th place today is Victor, the mysterious masked man from "Tales Of Xillia 2" that probably only had 30-40 minutes of screen time at most in a 50 hour game. What made him so special?

Victor's role in "Tales Of Xillia 2" may not have been too impactful or explosive, but his very existence shakes the very core of the main character, Ludger's, foundation. From the very moment we see him in the prologue animated cut scene, we don't know too much about him since we don't see his face, but we do know that he is Elle's father. However, right in the thick of the game where we truly get to see him in person, we start to see links. The way he cooks, the way he talks to everyone, the way he treats Elle...its all too eerie and slightly disturbing.

That's right, for a game all about time travelling and dimension hopping, it had to happen. Victor is the "fractured dimension" of Ludger, and in that state, he has a daughter known as Elle. The Elle we've been protecting and sheltering the entire game is actually our daughter...in an alternate dimension anyway. Either way, Victor fights the group, and is immediately portrayed as a complete monster in battle, sporting the exact same moves as Ludger, only stronger. And just LIKE Ludger, he has access to his own, twisted version of Kresnik, which he abused, and it took everything he loved away from him, except his daughter. In a way, we can sympathize with the fellow, even with his dying breath, he asks Ludger to take care of Elle. If that's anyone who can take care of his daughter...its him, after all. Even if its another version of himself, he's just that glad.

The sith lord of the "Souls" franchise.

3. Pontiff Sulyvahn
From: Dark Souls 3

In 3rd place today we have yet again, another pope figure. Say hello to Pontiff Sulyvahn, possibly the closest thing we have to the "Souls" franchise as a total f**king dickbag.

Pontiff Sulyvahn is the asshole of assholes, the douche of all douchebags in the "Souls" franchise. He is the one character in the game that takes all that we enjoyed and liked in the original "Dark Souls" lore wise, and crushes them all. He feeds Gwyndolin to the god eating Aldrich so that he can rule over Anor Londor, he imprisons Yorshka high up into a tower so that she cannot do anything, and he completely rules over new Anor Londo as the renamed Boreal valley.

Swarming the entire place with his knights and beasts, this man single-handedly screwed over Anor Londo and made the entire place his bitch house. To make matters worse, he is probably the piece of shit who set up all those Pontiff creatures to stand in your way. Boreal, the Dancer, and even the Cathedral wards...everything has traces of the Pontiff getting out of his way to make sure that you do NOT kill the lords of Cinder. Unfortunately, this guy doesn't have any dialogue, if he did, that would be so freaking sweet. Imagine him putting up an epic speech as you walk up to him in his cathedral in the Boreal Valley...before he proceeds to cut you up like Swiss cheese with his epic, dual great swords. Man, what a beast, too bad we can never be as cool as this dude.

Holy mother of jesus. Oh HELL no!

2. Asimov
From: Azure Striker Gunvolt

Number 2 on today's list is probably the one I personally have the biggest beef with out of all the villains here. Asimov is his name, and he is one hell of an asshole.

"Azure Striker Gunvolt"'s story is relatively simple. Gunvolt tries to over run Sumeragi while trying to house Joule, a girl that he's vowed to protect. Simply put that Quill, a terrorist organization bent on stopping Sumeragi, helped Gunvolt out a whole lot, and its leader is Asimov. After being a mentor figure and friend to Gunvolt for so long, its natural that it hurts when Asmimov back stabs Gunvolt at the VERY end, after the leader of Sumeragi was felled. Seizing the weapon of the anti-adept Copen, Asimov shoots Gunvolt, pretty much killing him, then he proceeds to shoot poor Joule as well. The pair die, and the game ends with an all so sour note...

That is unless you play the true ending route, where Gunvolt is saved by Joule's pendant. Sure, Joule is still dead, but her spiritual self Lumen fuses with Gunvolt. Now burning with power and a spirit of vengeance, he goes to confront Asimov before he sets to rule this new, deformed world with Sumeragi out of the picture. Asimov is STRONG, even with Lumen's song empowering Gunvolt to the heavens, this man turns everything around with Copen's anti-adept pistol and his very own Azure Striker ability, which rivals, and at some times, even triumph's over Gunvolt's. The true manifestation of a badass villain, Asimov goes out standing still, and when Gunvolt's friends find out that he kills their former commander, the game still ends with a bittersweet tone. What the f*ck man....

The simplest are always the deadliest.

1. Chara
From: Undertale

I'm very sure I don't have to say anything about this one. Number 1 on today's list can only be pure evil incarnate, and that is none other than Chara.

Make no mistake, Chara is YOU, the player character, US, IN THE GAME. Frisk is the player character, Chara is the player. It's all a mind f*cking logic that will cause you to rip your hair to shreds, so we'll leave it at that. Anyway, if you choose to play the game in the genocide route, you're pretty much Chara anyway, you kill all the lovable characters and mess up the entire world, turning it into a true shit storm as its denizens all struggle to escape from your grasp.

Chara is unstoppable, they're the player character anyway. Dieing means we'll load the game, we can go back in time as many times as we want, no matter how strong our foe is, we'll still win in the very end, and they can do nothing as we tear them to shreds. All their hopes and dreams, crushed under our very boot. We grind in every area, killing EVERYTHING that resides in it before moving on, all to increase our LOV, our level of violence. We become so powerful that even when confronted by the most powerful being in the "Undertale" universe, we pretty much kill him in a single blow. Complete bullshit if you ask me. When we make it to the surface, we even destroy THAT world. Wow. As long as you choose to BECOME Chara, there is no going back. Chara even semi-jump scares you if you say no to their proposition of ending EVERYTHING...then proceeds to fill your screen with 9s.

Opening Songs
OP 1 - Ring Ring Rainbow! (YuiKaori)

Ending Songs
ED 1 - Honey Come! (Yui Ogura)

Genre: Comedy, Slice Of Life

Regular world. Royal family of super powered teenagers. Ruling over the country. Enter "Castle Town Dandelion", possibly one of my favorite shows last year. I was this freaking close to putting this into my top 10 shows of 2015, its probably just slightly below "Jojo", because "Dandelion" is just that good. Being a show that starts off surprisingly simple, it becomes an incredibly unique show about a cast of unlikely heroes and heroines. With such a diverse cast, great character writing and more, "Castle Town Dandelion" is a fun watch from start to finish, especially since some of these characters are incredibly easy to relate to. If you're looking for another comedic slice of life anime to fill up your huge ass library of similar genre-d animes, "Castle Town Dandelion" will fit right in, and probably surpass some of your expectations.

Girls in swimsuits galore.

Being a little bit of a cute-sy show that it is, "Castle Town Dandelion" has some cute-sy theme songs. The opening theme is "Ring Ring Rainbow" by YuiKaori, which is the duo of Yui Ogura and Kaori Ishihara. the seiyuus of 2 of the shows heroines. Its a very fast paced and cute song that sounds really cheerful, which probably fits for this type of show. The ending theme is "Honey Come" by Yui Ogura, which is another cute-sy ending theme, only this one isn't as fast.

Rating: 8.0/10

With a majority of slice of life comedy shows not having much of a theme going on nowadays, "Castle Town Dandelion" does the right theme of giving the show some sort of a "goal" from the very start. The very first episode alone introduces us to its incredibly colorful cast of characters (literally colorful though, almost everyone has a different hair color) and the goal that they are striving for, which is to simply become king. The fact that our protagonist is so god damned adorable (and maybe sometimes a little bit annoying) and that her siblings are all different in one way or another really seems to contrast extremely well. Even though "Dandelion" is also a show about super powers, the fact that they aren't used for action scenes is a welcome addition, just because you have superpowers, that doesn't mean you need bloodthirsty teens to go at each other mercilessly. Now that we've gotten the fact that there's no action out of the way, "Dandelion" is all about building up its characters until the inevitable finale, which they couldn't have concluded any better. Also, for a slice of life show, there are plenty of fun and quirky moments for our super powered, royally bred teenagers.

Akane is always embarrassed. For no reason. That's pretty moe.

The Sakurada family is one of the quirkiest and most powerful families around. The country of Japan is currently ruled under the Sakurada family, and with the king soon stepping down, he has plans to let one of his children take over to rule the country. How fitting that he actually has 9 freaking children to choose from to pass the torch over to. The Sakurada kids all have super powers of their own, and with the goal being given to them to get votes from the citizens to take over the throne, they have quite a lot on their shoulders. With the entire country being plastered with cameras to film the daily lives of the Sakurada children, they have to be extremely mindful of their actions with the public watching them. Winner with the most votes takes the throne, so basically they have to use their powers to do some really impressive stuff. With protagonist Akane being super shy and scared, she hates herself being filmed to the public. Thus begins her struggle to stay out of the spotlight...in vain of course.

"Castle Town Dandelion" is just lovely. It certainly may not be for everyone, but for slice of life lovers, I'd recommend this one. There's quite a lot going on in here, but its still a worthwhile show to invest into. It even wraps up very nicely despite being only 12 episodes long.

Opening Songs
OP 1 - Kakushinteki Metamorphose (Aimi Tanaka)

Ending Songs
ED 1 - Hidamari Days (Aimi Tanaka, Akari Kageyama, Haruka Shiraishi, Yurina Furukawa)

Genre: Comedy, Slice Of Life

Episodes: 12

Praise the lord and savior of NEETs that is Doma Umaru! "Himouto! Umaru Chan" is another one of those shows that pretty much went viral in the anime community because of its sheer ridiculous and silliness when all things are considered. When you an art style like THAT, its really no wonder that people start to wonder really hard and then start watching your show. Well, you can right away tell that "Umaru Chan" is nothing but funnies. After all, if you're going to watch this show for anything else, you're going to get moot. If you're looking for a good comedy show, "Umaru Chan" offers just that, but nothing much else. If you want good, developing characters, romance, or ANYTHING at all, then you won't be finding it here, because "Umaru Chan" offers laughs, and only laughs. When its not doing that, its really just not doing its job right. Fret not, when its on the right track, "Umaru Chan" is a pleasure to watch, and its easy-going nature makes sure everyone fits right in from the very get-go.

Go figure, Umaru likes SF IV.

Being a crazy show about a crazy girl, "Kakushinteki Metamorphose" by Aimi Tanaka (who is also the seiyu for Umaru) is probably the best opening song you could ask for. Its noisy, its spontaneous, and its extremely catchy, even just after the first few seconds. It fits the overall theme of the show and its a pretty good listen, even if it gets slightly old after awhile. The ending theme though, "Hidamari" days, which is sang by the seiyuus of the main girls in the show, isn't that good. Its a typical, harmonious, slow, ending song....not something I particularly like.

Rating: 7.5/10

Its a good show, that much I can back it up. Many people say that the show overstays it welcome with 12 episodes, as its pretty much the same thing for 12 episodes done in different ways. To some degree, they are right, its all about how much you can this style of comedy with Umaru being ridiculous and spoiled. If you aren't being too over critical about it, "Umaru Chan" can easily get you going through its 12 episodes run, for me it flew by so quickly because I was enjoying myself with its parodies and silly jokes. The art style is kind of lazy, especially with Umaru, but I'd say its part of the show's charm. This is pretty much the telling of a life of a brother/sister pair with very few points of synergy, so the show is VERY focused on its 2 core main characters, and little much on everyone else. Because of that, every other characters  don't feel too well focused or developed, which isn't much of a problem in a show like this. This is the kind of shit you watch for fun on a weekend morning, and it works.

Me when a girl walks in on me full otaku-mode.

Doma Umaru is the perfect high school girl. Dazzling looks, perfect grades, and an incredibly successful social life. She's got it all, she is the apple of everybody's eye, and she turns heads wherever she goes, she's just that kind of girl. However, whenever she gets home, she undergoes a transformation. She super deforms herself into a hamster hooded ultra NEET that does nothing but enjoy the pleasures of being indoors. Playing videogames, watching anime, going on NND, eating junk food and making fun with her pet hamsters...that's basically what she DOES EVERY DAY. Her brother and room mate, Taihei, is a working man that has to deal with her shenanigans everyday, and he is not exactly well equipped to handle her nonsense. Though the 2 love each other as siblings, they don't exactly have the best synergy. Taihei is forced to play along with his little sister's nonsense, and slowly but surely, the friends of brother and sister join the fray.

"Himouto! Umaru Chan" works for what it is. Its a comedy/slice of life show that solely focuses on its key point, the ridiculousness of Umaru.  Seeing her and her brother go through everyday life is amusing enough to be entertaining, and to me, that's more than a passing mark, especially if it keeps me chuckling along the way.
